Those eyes….

Sheafs o plain sheets
Still, strewn in the haze
Smoke, thick and choking
Two eyes,he saw through this glaze!

Deep and sad, walnut hazel
They just kept looking at him
Tears of pain
Or
The smokey room
Those were ponds of clear water
And murky depths!

Proceed, he couldn’t
His brush, now dry.
Dipped in some oil
He set out to give it a try.
He set his eyes
And took a stride
Resolute
To paint a visage
To cast a smiler
To breathe life.

And still in those eyes
He hung lost
A statue
His hand raised
Mind, numb.
